Ingrid Betancourt - Librarian Extraordinaire

Ingrid Betancourt's distinguished career as librarian extraordinaire coincided with the Library's formal implementation of Spanish services. She was hired when the Library received a three-year $320,033 LSCA (Library Services and Construction Act) grant awared through the N.J. State Library. She has worn numerous hats while at the Library, such as intern, Project Manager of NELMAC, Coordinator of Multicultural Services, Director of MultiMAC, Cofounder and Director of the NJHRIC, and currently Assistant Director for Special Collections.

Ms. Betancourt has received numerous awards and recognition for her efforts as a librarian and advocate for the Spanish-speaking community at large. Her far-reaching impact can be recognized through the establishment of La Sala Hispanoamericana and later NJHRIC, as well as the communities she has built through outreach programs and Latino celebrations hosted at the Library.
