Local Adult's Softball

Community involvement in sports is not just limited to the youth. Adults also enjoy the competition of a friendly game. Adult softball leagues are an important part of building communities. They allowed for parents to be players instead of the audience and youth to be the audience instead of the players. These games bring families and communities together as they come out to cheer their parents and friends on.

Cheerleading teams like this one were present at many community softball games, and were made up of the team players’ children - young girls coming out to the field in support of their fathers. The cheerleaders pictured were the daughters of Los Atleticos players.

The Tony Perez Softball League, founded in 1978, has played a large role in organizing games. Pictured is a former president awarding a trophy to a player on the Los Arecibos team, the league champions. The Puerto Rican flag is flown, representing the large part and influence the Puerto Rican community plays in local sports.
