Roberto Clemente

Kal Wagenheim, journalist and writer, was immediately approached by Prager Publishers to write a biography on Roberto Clemente following his death in 1972. Wagenheim was an ideal candidate to write the book since he already published a biography of Babe Ruth and was knowledgeable of Puerto Rican culture. He had the immense task of writing Clemente! within a 3-month deadline. Dividing his work into two phases, the first phase consisted of researching primary sources and interviewing influential people in Clemente’s life. The second phase consisted of writing an 80,000-word book, which Wagenheim achieved by writing 50 pages a week for 6 weeks.
